Silvana Toska
Assistant Professor of Political Science
Welcome to my website!

I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Davidson College . My research interests include political Islam, social movements, revolution, diffusion, and political violence, focusing especially on the Middle East and Africa. At the moment I am particularly interested in the ways that structural and ideational factors interact to influence the various stages of anti-regime movements, as well as in the diffusion of these movements from one country to another.

Prior to coming to Cornell, I received an M.A. in African Studies from Oxford University and an M.A. in Arab Studies from Georgetown University. My undergraduate degree is from the University of Pennsylvania.

For the last four years, I have lived in Egypt, travelled around the Middle East for research, and taught at the American University in Cairo. I love languages, cooking, hiking, and planning that next trip.
